Guidance on Food Waste Pre-Treatment

SEPA has recently published a new guidance note covering the treatment of food waste at the site of production. It is aimed at small-scale food waste producers and covers composting and food waste treatment technologies which reduce the volume of material requiring transport for treatment and increase the potential for odour problems arising from storage at the point of production.

You’re Ready!

No, we’re not talking about Christmas, although, if you are ready, lucky you!

As you know, the new waste legislation comes into force on the first day of the New Year. All our customers have had a review and have a plan in place to comply with the law. If you need recycling bins inside or out, you have them. If you need food or glass collections, they’re sorted.

All you have to do is enjoy the festive season and relax, knowing that everything is under control.

If you still have questions, please contact us and we will be happy to put your mind at rest.

Festive Service and Office Opening

  • Our offices will be closed 25th and 26th December 2013 and 1st and 2nd January 2014.
  • Wheelie bin services ONLY will continue throughout, apart from 25th December and 1st January
  • Skip services 27th – 31st December

from Craig and the team at One Stop Waste.

Foodstory Cafe

We have been working with the Foodstory Café on Thistle Street in Aberdeen to help them with the recycling of their food and general waste. However, they have taken the whole recycling idea much further and have up-cycled old pallets and a park bench as part of their café design. Pop in and have a look if you are in the area!

Winning Christmas Card

xmas card2

One Stop Waste sponsored the 2013 Christmas Card competition at Newtonhill Out of School Club. There were some fabulous and creative entries, but after considerable deliberation here is the winning design. We think the card is stunning. Well done kids!!

Recycling isn’t Scary

If you still find all the talk of waste regulations, recycling and compliance terrifying, come and see us at Granite Expo in Aberdeen on Halloween. Craig Donoghue, our managing director will be giving a talk about Zero Waste. We promise not to frighten you with jargon or trick you with technical terms. You might even get a treat!

Less than 100 days to go…

The new Waste (Scotland) Regulations come into force on 1 January 2014, which is not that far away. Less than 100 days to be precise.

As a One Stop Waste customer you should now be fully prepared and compliant with the new law. Most of you have had your complimentary audit and received your certificate of compliance. In summary:

• Your business must present metal, plastic, glass, paper and card separately for recycling from 1 January 2014.

• If you run a food business which produces over 50 kg of food waste per week, you must present it for separate collection from 1 January 2014.

Here is a great diagram which explains the what, why and how.

RWM 2013

Craig Donoghue attended RWM, Europe’s leading Waste Management event, in Birmingham in September. He found out about the latest developments in recycling and waste management and attended a wide variety of seminars. He particularly enjoyed the talk by Andy Pag, the eco-adventurer who drove a chocolate-powered lorry to Timbuktu. Craig has come back full of interesting ideas for the reuse of clients’ household materials!

Aberdeen Green Event

This was an event hosted jointly by Hydrasun, One Stop Waste Solutions and the Bright Green Business Partnership on Wednesday 2nd October, at Hydrasun’s premises in the Gateway Business Park . It focused on the impact of the new Waste (Scotland) Regulations and the requirements they put upon businesses from the beginning of 2014.

The event included a site tour of One Stop Waste’s Recycling and Waste Processing facility, and demonstrated the effective partnership that Hydrasun and One Stop Waste have brokered in order to ensure that Hydrasun can effectively manage waste management performance, and used it as a real life example of what can be achieved by other companies.
